肇一
1947年大阪市に生まれ、1971年に京都市立芸術大学工芸科を卒業。1974 年から1976 年までアフリカ・ケニア共和国にて陶芸指導及び商品開発に携わる。帰国後築窯し工房を設立する。
1976 年の夏にケニヤでの仕事を終えて帰国後、すぐに私は東京から美麻村（当時）に移住していた友人家族をオートバイに乗って訪ねた。その後何度もやってくる私を彼らは暖かく迎えてくれ、彼らの友人たちも私の友人となった。すっかりこの土地と人々の虜になった私は「ああ、この美麻・大町こそが自分の故郷だったのだ」と思い込んだ。あれから40 年が過ぎた今、この土地への道が北カリフォルニアのメンドシーノまで続いていたことに驚いてる。そして異国の友人まで出来た。「ありがとう」という言葉のほかに言葉がでない。
Keiichi Murata : Born in Osaka in 1947, and graduated from Department of Fine Arts, Kyoto City University of Arts. Participated in teaching pottery and product development in the republic of Kenya, Africa from 1974 to 1976. After coming back to Japan, opened own atelier.
Soon after I came back to Japan from Kenya, I visited my friend's family living in Miasa Village by motorcycle from Tokyo. I visited many times since then and they received me warmly and eventually I became friends with their friends. I felt this place, Miasa and Omachi, is true hometown for me since I was deeply attracted to the people and the place. It has been 40 years since then, and now I am surprised that this place leads me to Mendocino, located in Northern California. I now have foreign friends. I cannot find any other words than "Thank you".
